NO MORE DIRTY LOOKS: The Truth About Your Beauty Products and the Ultimate Guide to Safe and Clean Cosmetics

by Nada

During my recent 3 hour layover at the Toronto International Airport (YYZ), I found myself browsing the bookstore and uncovered a great new book that every women should have in her beauty library! “No More Dirty Looks”- the ultimate guide to safe and clean beauty products, written by Siobhan O’Conner and Alexandra Spunt provides an informative look at the chemicals found in so many of our favourite beauty products that we are guilty of using every day. The great thing is, the book isn’t just for green obsessed beauty goers, but for any women who wants to know the truth behind why so many mainstream cosmetic companies are guilty of using chemical laden components and the many alternatives out there. It also provides homemade beauty recipes, lifestyle tips and reviews of the some of the safest and effective personal care products out there. We especially love their story of how it all started with their visit to the salon to get a their hair straightened only to uncover that the “special” straightening component is formaldehyde, what is widely known as a carcinogen.

This is a great read for anyone who is taking steps towards a living a chemical free, toxic free life. It was a refreshing guide that I could not put down, and also made my what seemed long wait for my next flight, just seem to fly by.

Have you heard of the “Story of Stuff Project”?

by Nada

I recently discovered this project called The Story of Stuff and was immediately engaged. The film which has already been viewed over 10 million times in various schools and organizations across America, focuses on the systems of production and consumption and North America’s great love affair with material goods and other “stuff”. This 20 minute video uncovers many of the environmental and social consequences of producing, consuming and disposing of so many material goods and is a real eye opener that should be seen by everyone.

Additionally, the projects founder, Annie Leonard, is currently working on a viral film entitled ”The Story of Cosmetics” in partnership with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics to raise awareness of the alarming amounts of harmful and toxic chemicals found in our everyday personal care products. The campaign is also hoping to raise additional funds to complete the clip so they can launch before the end of next month. For more information or to make a donation please proceed to their site.
